KORN:
PAST,
PRESENT,
and
FUTURE
Since their self titled dedut album (Korn), Korn has shocked the media,
critics, and especially their fans, with their original, and explosive
music. Even with Jonathan Davis singing, Korn's talents do not stop
there. Jon is backed up by Reggie "Fieldy" Arvizu, James "Munky"
Schaffer, David Silvera, and Brian "Head" Welch on lead guitar. There
has not been a band in recent years that has so much talent distributed
throughout one band. For that reason, you not only have to enjoy what
they are doing, but you have to respect what they are doing.
For a band with little, or no, radio air play, Korn has overwhelmed
audiences all over the globe. Personally, I have seen Korn five times. The
first time, was back in 1995, on the Ozzy Osbourne "Ozzmosis" Tour. They
followed Life of Agony (excellent band), and blew everyone away. Even
the middle aged members of the audience bobbed their heads to the
deep bass lines of the band. For one to see Jonathan sing "Shoots and
Ladders" on the bagpipes is a once-in-a-lifetime event. I am so glad
I have had that pleasure to witness such an event. The second time I
saw them was in Asbury Park, NJ, on their "Life is Peachy" Tour. I am
so glad that they brought along The Urge, and the Pharcyde. Both bands
rocked! They were so different, and likeable. Only Korn can combine
Ska, Rap, and the "unlabeled" sounds of their band. Then Korn takes the
stage, and puts the icing on the cake. Since then, I have seen them on their
Family Values Tour (1998), with Rob Zombie (1999), and most recently on
the Sick and Twisted Tour (2000). YOU ARE HONESTLY MY FAVORITE BAND!

WHO
IS
KORN?
Before you can understand the music, you have to learn the band’s
history, and the influence it has to their music. They got their unique
sound through their equipment, their lyrics, and style of music. KoRn
blends rap, rock, metal, funk, and elements of industrial music into
one band.
Jonathan Davis:
-sings lead vocals
-Kicked out of house at 18
-Enrolled at a Mortuary College: Went on to work in a funeral home
during the day, and the coroner’s office at night. Davis learned
to “appreciate life” because of this.
-Lyrics are all done by Jonathan. He says, “Its totally honest,
Its totally real. All the lyrics are about my own life. The
only way I can be honest about singing about anything is if I know
what it is.”
-Has numerous tatoos, but his "HIV" tattoo does not mean he is gay,
or that he is HIV positive. It was to show support to people inflected
with the disease, and to tell mainsteam society to go f**k themselves!
-Favorite band is Duran Duran
Reggie “Fieldy” Arvizu:
-plays Bass guitar
-He is known for his alcohol related antics: On a photo shoot,
he had a bucket next to him just in case he threw up.
-He loves his "Coldies"
-Favorite music is a variety of Rap and Hip-Hop
Brian “Head” Welch:
-Plays lead guitar
-Head and Munky have been playing together for more than 2/3
of their lives
-Bought a lemon of a used car!
-Head, and Munky, enjoy spirited bands like Mr. Bungle, and Free
-Head and Munky have also known each other since they were kids!
James “Munky” Schaffer:
-Plays rythum guitar
-He was always in trouble as a kid: setting fields on fire,
trespassing, stealing from his parents liquor cabinet
-Cut the top of his finger off in a three-wheeler accident
David Silveria:
-Plays drums
-Wanted to be in a band since he was seven
-Joined the band at fifteen
-Favorite music is Disco
All the band members grew up in Bakersfield, CA.
KoRn was formed in 1993:
-Jonathan was in a band called SexArt
-The other four band members were in a band called Creep
-Munky and Head went into a venue where SexArt was playing
-They asked Jonathan to try out for their band
-Jon was not sure, went to a psychic, and told him he was
stupid if he didn't
-Jon tried out, the band loved him, and the name of the
band was later changed to KoRn.
Where does the name, "KoRn", come from?
-Well, no one really knows, but there are some really gross rumors.
Jon said the name just came to him, and the band said, "Fuck yeah!"
-The altered the spelling to resemble the spelling as if a little kid
where to write it. The logo was done by Jonathan, writing the band’s
name left-handed so as to resemble a Stephen King title.
(Fieldy does most of the designs on T-Shirts and posters)
How do you become a member of the band?
-Before you send in your resume, start to practice drinking your beer
(only those who are 21 or older),Korn can drink anyone under the table!
-Korn is a solid band (only recently have they let someone outside the
standard line-up play on stage. Mike Bordin (Drummer for Ozzy Osbourne and
Faith No More) replaced David on the "Sick and Twisted" Tour when he was hurt
with a wrist injury (that was originally sustained during the Korn/Zombie Tour).
Their albums are:
1)KoRn-1994
2)Life Is Peachy-1996
3)A.D.I.D.A.S.-1997
4)Follow the Leader-1998
5)Issues-1999
6)Imports: Blind, Shoots and Ladders, Clown, No Place To Hide,
and many, many, many more
7)Movie Soundtracks:

8)Video: Who,Then,Now-1997
KoRn have a variety of sponsors:
-Adidas Clothing
-Jagermiester liquor
-Ibanez instruments
-Paiste Cymbals
KoRn gained their popularity by:
-Relentless touring: first tour lasted 18 months
-street level self-promotion: no radio or MTV (those this is changing everyday):
It keeps them
underground and true to their fans.
-direct contact with their fans:
-intament venues
-Internet
-Huge Tours
-Great shows with good support bands
KoRn incorporates a variety of styles into their music. They are a
viable alternative to anyone that is fed up with main-stream music
today. They are fun and energetic. Their music delivers power, and
poetic words for you to realize that there are people that have the
same problems as you, so don’t feel alone. So, if you like to try new
things, KoRn is definitely something you should listen to.
